Skin is your largest body organ. Clear, soft and healthy-looking skin is a great beauty asset. Skin type is determinate by your genes, but there is plenty you can do to ensure it looks as good as possible. The first step for your healthy and radiant skin is to recognise skin type. There are four main skin types: normal, dry, oily, combination.
Normal skin
Normal skin is the perfect, balanced skin type. This skin type usually has a healthy glow and a soft texture with little flakiness and no open pores. If you have a normal skin type, it doesn’t mean you never have a bit of oil or dryness on your face, but it is quickly resolved and not a significant issue when you do. Your skin is generally blemish-free, except for the occasional outbreak and doesn’t feel too dry or too shiny at the end of the day
Dry skin
This skin is delicate, susceptible to flaking and fine lines. Small pores and an overall feeling of tightness characterise dry skin. This skin type often has less elasticity and does not retain moisture well. As we age, dry skin is more common, as the skin produces less oil.
Oily skin
Oily skin usually has open pores and an oily surface. People with oily skin tend to have a shiny, thicker complexion. Blackheads and pimples are common problems with this skin type. This is due to the overproduction of sebum. Oily skin is often a matter of genetics or hormonal changes. These changes trigger the body to produce more oil which also moisturises and make the skin less prone to wrinkles.
Combination skin
This is the most common skin type. Combination skin has a blend of oily and dry patches. The centre panel or T-zone across the forehead and down the nose and chin tends to be oily and needs to be treated like oily skin; the other areas are prone to dryness and flakiness due to lack of moisture and need to be treated like dry skin. Some combination skins can have patches of dry and oily skin in other arrangements.
